Sassa warns of fake R700 grant application form circulating online

Social media posts claiming a sassa r700 grant application form for 2022 are circulating, and Sassa is warning people about them.

In a post circulating on social media, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) suggests that application forms for a sassa r700 grant application are available.

Through an online registration process, people between the ages of 18 and 35 are encouraged to apply for the grant.

The link is not from the agency and the post is fake, according to Sassa.

The below fake information is being warned against by Sassa. Sassa did not send this message. I would appreciate it if you ignored or deleted it.”

According to Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, people should verify the information before relying on it.

“For the record, there is a proper way to communicate with our beneficiaries when we want to communicate with them. 

As an example, we use one of these platforms to send alerts, since we have individuals’ addresses to allow them to respond,” said Letsatsi.

Sassa scam circulating on WhatsApp

Sassa has previously advised those who receive social relief of distress (SRD) grants to be careful who they share their personal details with, and to always verify their contact details in the system.

A statement was issued by the agency after its customer care unit in Mpumalanga received several calls from grant recipients complaining their contact details had changed.

Sassa says scammers are offering to assist people with their application process via WhatsApp.

People are asked for their personal details by scammers. 

“The scammers change the contact details of applicants by giving their personal details to strangers,” said Sassa.

How to change your contact details

You will need your ID number to change your contact information. 

A number will be sent to your cellphone once you have provided that information. 

If you enter the OTP number, you will be able to update your contact information.

The R350 grant website is where you can verify or change your contact information.
