How much will SASSA Grants pay? New Grant amounts from 1 April 2023
South Africa announced in its 2023 budget speech (held on 22 February 2023), that it would allocate R227 billion for additional funding over the next few years.
The COVID-19 SRD will be extended until 31 March 2024 with R36 billion of this budget allocated to Social Development over the medium term.
As a result of the Finance Minister’s announcement, SASSA grant recipients will receive the following inflation-linked increases:
- There will be an increase in the Older Persons Grant (old age pension) to:
- For recipients between 60 and 74 years of age, the amount will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023. As of 1 October 2023, it will increase to R2090 (an increase of R10).
- A R90 increase will be applied to recipients over 75 years of age on 1 April 2023. On 1 October 2023, the price will increase by R10 to R2110.
- There will be an increase of R90 in the Disability Grant on 1 April 2023, from R1080 to R2080. After 1 October 2023, it will increase to R2090 (an increase of R10).
- There will be an increase of R20 in the Child Support Grant on 1 April 2023 to R500. The rate will then increase to R510 on 1 October 2023 (an increase of ten percent).
- A R10 increase will be made to the Child Support Grant Top-Up on 1 April 2023, making it R250. 1 October 2023 will be the last date for further increases.
- As of 1 April 2023, the Foster Child Grant will be R1120 (an increase of R50). A further increase of R10 will take place on 1 October 2023 to bring it to R1130.
- There will be a 90-percent increase in the Care Dependency Grant on 1 April 2023. A ten-percent increase will be made to R2090 on 1 October 2023.
- There will be an increase of R90 in the War Veterans Grant on 1 April 2023, to R2100. There will be an increase of R10 on 1 October 2023 (to R2110).
- By 1 April 2023, the Grant-In-Aid will be R500 (a 20 percent increase). From 1 October 2023 onwards, it will increase by R10 to R510.
